Almost 2,000 Runner Caught by the Commish

Baltimore Police Commissioner Bealefeld Passes 1,967 in Second Annual Baltimore 10-miler

Caught by the Commish Program raises big money for Police Foundation

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld, III participated in the second annual University of Maryland Heart Center Baltimore 10-Miler to help raise funds for the Police Foundation Fund. The event took place on Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 a.m. inside Druid Hill Park near the Maryland Zoo.

Commissioner Bealefeld started last in the sold out field of 3,000 runners. For every runner he "caught" or passed CaughtCommishLogoon the 10-mile course, CSE pledged to make a $2 donation to the Police Foundation Fund & the University of Maryland Heart Center. Managed by the Baltimore Community Foundation, the Police Foundation Fund was created to accept private donations to support the Baltimore Police Department's efforts to make Baltimore a safer place to live, work and visit.

Lee Corrigan, President of CSE, said: "On behalf of Corrigan Sports Enterprises and our sponsors we would like to acknowledge the courage and effort of the Police Commissioner. We are proud of the fact that he was able to pass 1,967 runners in this year’s event and even more proud of the example that he sets in our city every day. We look forward to adding up the donation totals from the passed runners and the additional donations."

As all runners can relate to, the Commissioner tried to fight through dehydration but was unable to make it beyond mile 9 and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. He is home resting comfortably and will make a full recovery.

CSE and the Baltimore Police Department would also like to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of well wishes from the running community through our website and numerous blogs and other websites. Something special about runners is the support they consistently give one another, and this was certainly displayed for the Commissioner during and after the event.

After the race those runners passed by Commissioner Bealefeld had the option to purchase "Get Out of Jail" T-shirts in order to raise additional funds for the charities. All participants and the public can still donate online to the police charity by visiting http://www.active.com/donate/baltimore10miler

The total fundraising goal has been set at $10,000.
